Gantry Group Hired by Palm, Inc., to Develop ROI Tool for Enterprise Mobility Solutions

Study to Focus on Remote Audits and Diagnostics Applications

CONCORD, Massachusetts, June 2002- A leading provider of handheld mobility solutions, Palm, Inc. has hired the Gantry Group to design and conduct a multi-phased project with the goal of developing a realistic ROI tool based on actual case studies of Palm enterprise customers. Building off its earlier Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) study conducted for Palm earlier this year, the Gantry Group will now apply its rigorous methodology to build an application-specific ROI calculator that will be implemented as a tool on Palm’s website.

Gantry Group’s ROI definition and analysis program begins with in-depth interviews of Palm customers who have deployed Palm mobility solutions running remote audit/diagnostics applications for at least one year. Following a discovery interview during which Gantry Group probes for underlying business performance metrics that customers running this application expect to be impacted by the implementation, the ROI calculator is developed and iteratively refined. A final session is then held with the customer, to apply the final ROI calculator and determine the quantitative result.

Gantry Group’s comprehensive approach is based on identifying real, tangible benefits that can be measured. The final ROI tool is based on a three-year time horizon and calculates the Internal Rate of Return using the Net Present Value of the net cash flows associated with a specific mobility solution deployment. Indirect, intangible benefits are not parameterized in the ROI tool because Gantry Group is intent on only calculating benefits that are real, generating an ROI that, while more conservative, is also more likely to be achieved.
